Today’s gorgeous fall wedding takes place in a beautiful mountain setting in Kentucky. The location is undeniably stunning, requiring little details to add to the beautiful scenery. I am personally loving the brooch bouquet and the bride’s stunning gown. And I’m obsessed with the shots of her twirling in the trees!
The sweet bride Lauren shares:
John and I were married on a gorgeous piece of family land in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky on a perfect October day. My family has been building memories here for years, and it was always a dream of mine to share this amazing 33-acre masterpiece with our closest family and friends on our wedding day. We were married in front of a waterfall by a close friend, Minerva, who was ordained specifically to officiate our wedding. She wrote a beautiful sermon for John and I, and included the importance of our family and friends in her message. Our property (affectionately called Hidden Cove) sits on Nolin Lake, and because the lake is lower in the fall, usually the waterfall is not running during this time of year. My brother and uncles rigged the waterfall to ensure that it would be running while we exchanged our vows—it was so magical. Standing in front of that waterfall with John, surrounded by only our closest family and friends, was probably one of the most amazing moments of my lifetime.
We celebrated our Kentucky destination by serving a Maker’s Mark Bourbon specialty cocktail and allowing our guests to dip their own bottles of Maker’s Mark bourbon in a second layer of black wax. To ensure amazing weather on our wedding day, my father buried a bottle of Makers Mark Bourbon at the site of our ceremony, one month prior to the date of our wedding. It’s a southern wedding myth for outdoor ceremonies. After the gorgeous day that we enjoyed for our party, we are all believers.
Because our wedding was in the woods, we went with some rustic black lantern centerpieces, mixed with more simple floral arrangements and other candle compliments. Because of the remote nature of our location, I took care of all of the floral design on that day. I made my bouquet from brooches gifted to me during my bridal shower and from family members who have passed these pieces down from generations. To add some warmth to the bouquet, I added baby’s breath between the brooches and at the base of the bouquet. It still looks beautiful to this day! Tables were dressed in a red bengaline with black satin-edged napkins and black padded folding chairs. All of the cocktail tables and specialty tables were dressed in floor length black linen to contrast with our white tent. The fall hues from the trees and bushes surrounding us served as a gorgeous backdrop to my décor and added dimension to the event design. Our event was completely tucked away from the rest of the world. It really was our own private party.
John and I still look back on that day in awe of how well it turned out. Most of our guests traveled great distances in order to share that special day with us. We had a lot of support in clearing up the property, and arranging the tent in preparation of our wedding. We were so fortunate to have so many amazing people there to celebrate and share that day with us, and Two Birds photography did a beautiful job in capturing the moments that made our wedding day so special. We will cherish those memories forever.
